How much does a social media agency cost in 2026?

Analysis5 min read

"How much does a social media agency cost?" has a frustrating answer: it depends. But it doesn't depend on nothing. Several surveys from 2024 to 2026 tell us what agencies and freelancers actually charge, what's usually included, and what pushes the price up. Here's what they found, with every source linked.

The short answer

The details behind each number follow.

What agencies charge in the United States

The most recent survey we found is HeyOrca's 2026 pricing report, from about 100 agencies, from solo freelancers to larger teams (HeyOrca, 2026). Monthly retainers break down like this:

  • Under $1,000: 31% of agencies
  • $1,000 to $2,499: 49%
  • $2,500 to $4,999: 9%
  • $5,000 or more: 3%

In other words, about 80% charge under $2,500 a month. HeyOrca's 2024 report put the average retainer at about $2,107 a month, for a typical package of three posts per platform on LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook, 5 to 10 hours of community management, and reporting (HeyOrca, 2024).

Clutch, which collects client reviews of agencies on its marketplace, reports a much higher average of about $5,107 a month, with typical engagements lasting 12 months (Clutch, 2026). The gap makes sense: Clutch's reviews skew toward larger agencies and larger clients.

Read the package, not the price

Two agencies at the same price can deliver very different things. One includes content creation, publishing, replies and reports; another only schedules posts you write yourself. Compare what's included first.

What's usually included

In HeyOrca's 2026 survey, nearly every agency includes content creation (97%), scheduling (96%) and strategy (93%). Fewer include reporting (81%), and only three in four include community management (75%), meaning replies to comments and messages. Paid social ads are included by just 18%.

So "social media management" often doesn't mean the agency answers your customers. Ask.

What it costs in Brazil

The largest Brazilian survey we found is from mLabs and O Novo Mercado, with about 2,000 social media professionals, for a package of 12 posts a month including planning, creation, posting and interaction (mLabs):

  • Junior: 68% charge R$500 to R$1,000 a month
  • Mid-level: R$1,000 to R$2,500
  • Senior: from R$2,000, with about 35% charging more than R$3,000

That data is from 2022 and mostly covers freelancers, so treat it as a floor.

For agencies, RD Station's 2026 panorama of 349 Brazilian digital agencies (all services, not only social media) found the average ticket per client in 2025 spread widely: 34% up to R$2,000 a month, 22% between R$2,000 and R$5,000, 17% between R$5,000 and R$10,000, and 27% above that (RD Station, 2026).

What it costs in the UK

A compilation of published UK pricing from early 2026 puts small agencies at £800 to £2,000 a month, mid-size agencies at £2,000 to £5,000, and specialist agencies at £3,000 to £10,000 or more, all excluding ad spend (Whito, 2026). Experienced freelancers sit around £500 to £1,200 a month.

Freelancer or in-house instead?

Freelancers are usually cheaper per month. HeyOrca's 2024 data shows US freelancers charging about $47 an hour with 1 to 3 years of experience, up to about $92 an hour with 7 or more. The trade-off is coverage: one person rarely does strategy, design, video, writing, replies and reporting equally well, and the work stops when they're busy.

In-house gives you someone inside the company, at a higher fixed cost. In the US, Indeed puts the average social media manager base salary at about $65,700 a year (Indeed). The US Bureau of Labor Statistics doesn't track "social media manager" separately; the closest category, public relations specialists, has a median of $74,750 (BLS). In the UK, Indeed's average is about £34,500. That's before benefits, tools, and the designer or video editor one person usually can't replace.

What about paid ads?

Managing paid ads is usually priced separately. A survey of 146 PPC agencies found most charge a flat fee (about 83% use one), while charging only a percentage of ad spend is less common (about 13%) (Credo). You'll often see "10 to 20% of ad spend" quoted as a rule of thumb, but we couldn't find a survey behind that number.

What drives the price

Agencies themselves say the biggest factors are the time and resources involved (66%), the amount of content (60%) and the services included (57%), ahead of client size (42%) and the number of profiles (18%) (HeyOrca, 2026). In practice, three things move the price most:

  1. How much content, and what kind. Video costs more than images; original shoots cost more than edited material you already have.
  2. Whether replies are included. Answering comments and messages every day is real work.
  3. How many channels. Each platform needs its own formats and attention.

Questions to ask before you sign

  • What exactly is included each month: strategy, content, publishing, replies, reports?
  • Who creates the content, and how do you learn my brand?
  • Do you answer comments and messages, and how fast?
  • Can I see everything before it goes out, and stop anything?
  • Is there a minimum contract, and what happens to my accounts and content if we stop?

The cheapest option is the one that keeps you showing up every week. Everything else is an expense that stops working the day it stops.

Where Groselia fits

Groselia is an AI native social media agency. We don't publish a price, because it depends on what your brand needs, and we agree it on a call. One monthly fee covers the strategy, the content, the publishing on every account, the replies to comments and messages, the reporting and your own login to the platform, with no fees per seat or per channel. AI tools make the work faster, which is what lets a small team give each brand the attention of a dedicated social media team, at a fraction of what an agency or a hire usually costs.
